Arian Koster
Arian Koster is senior application manager with Arena. Arena is a division of KPN Telecom, a full daughter of KPN. He received his masters in Electrical Engineering in 1987 from the Delft Technical University. The same year he started with the Research department of KPN.
In 1990 he joined ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29/WG11, also known as MPEG where he introduced the Simulation Model, that was used to carry out experiments that concluded in the MPEG1 Video standard. He kept active in MPEG till 1994, working on the Test Model and made several valuable contributions that find their place in the MPEG2 Video standard. From 1992 till his leave he led the Dutch delegation in this body.
In 1994 he was assistant program manager for KPN Telecom's Video on Demand trial, were he was directly responsible for the specification of Set-Top's and Servers.
Arian Koster was one of the founders of DAVIC, and became chairman of the DAVIC Management Committee at the Tokyo meeting in December 1994. When he was in office the organisation doubled in size, from around 100 companies in December 1994 to more then 200 companies in March 1996 and from meetings with 250 attendees to over 400.
Currently he is vice-chairman of the Management Committee and the Membership and Nominating Committee.
Between end 1994 and spring 1996 he was part-time working for the Strategy department of the Network Services division of KPN Telecom.
Married with two children. He is fond of meeting other cultures, reading books, Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov are among his favourites. He likes to squash, play tennis and enjoys seasonal sports like sailing and skating.
